Here’s how to help us map using your phone!

Mapping Mental Health services with your mobile phone:
1. Click this link or bit.ly/MentalHealthMap to go to the Mental Health aWHEREness Map. Clicking on the pins shows information about the mapped MH resources/services. To add data, follow the instructions below.

2. Check the mental health services that are still not on the map from the Mental Health Services checklist through this link or at http://bit.ly/MHAchecklist. Select the service/facility that you want to map. Local knowledge of the place would help. If you are sure of its location, then you’re ready to map!

3. “Call dibs” on the service you’re going to map by checking it on its corresponding name on the checklist. Uncheck the item if mapping was unsuccessful.

4. On the map, log-in using your OpenStreetMap account. The log-in button can be found upon clicking the home button at the upper-right corner of the page.

If you have an OpenStreetMap account, MapContrib will ask you to grant access to this. Authorize access.
If you do not have an OSM account yet, sign up with your email address or by using a third-party login (Google, Facebook, etc.).
5. Once logged-in, you can then add a point on the map. Change the map background to show a satellite basemap. To do this, click the “Background display” on the left side of the map. Select “Mapbox Streets Satellite” or “BD ORTHO IGN”.

6. With the new basemap/background layer, find the location of the facility/service in the map. Refer to the Mental Health AWHEREness Mental Health Services list here or at http://bit.ly/MHAlist for services that are mapped and not yet mapped. Their details (address, contact no., email address, etc.) may also be found here. If you know more details about these MH services, or more MH services that you would like to add to the list, please add them as comments, or contact us.

Zoom in on the building that you are mapping. You may also search for the address of the mental health service or any landmark familiar to you that you know is near it.

7. Once zoomed in on the building that you’re mapping, click the “Add missing data” button found at the lower right part of the page. A cross-hair will then appear. Make sure that the cross-hair is centered at the middle of the building (rooftop).

8. You may then input the details of the mental health facility based on the MH list above, or from your knowledge. To do this, click the block for “Mental Health services” . The details that correspond to the input cells are also stated in this block (dark red).

9. Copy and paste the information from the list into the map, then click “Save”. For this example, here’s how we input the copied details from the list.

A few minutes after saving, anyone may then view the MH service you have just added on the map. 🙂
That’s it! Your input would help someone who is seeking professional help. Thank you so much!
Note: If you are currently in the mental health service/resource or near it, you may use the “Show my location” button to zoom in on your current location. Afterwards, you may then add the point and its corresponding data using the “Add missing data.” button.
